WWE legend Paul Heyman has shed new light on why Travis Scott and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson were suddenly and surprisingly taken out of a high-profile storyline.
The two men flanked John Cena during his long-awaited heel turn, and many thought the two entertainment and cultural juggernauts would play a big part in the angle.
Whilst Scott got physically involved during Cena’s WWE championship victory over Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania XLI, he was not seen again afterwards.
Paul Heyman, who talked about the situation on The Ariel Helwani Show, confirmed there were plans for the two that did not pan out. He simply said: “There was. It fell apart and we moved forward without it.”
The relationship between Scott and WWE has reportedly broken down , with Heyman adding: “I don’t know if he’s done. Any meeting that I was in that involved Travis Scott, I got along with him fine.
“Have I heard things? I have. Do I know the accuracy of it? Haven’t heard Travis’ version of it. Like his music, like his taste in women that he has children with, wish I was dating one of those sisters. I’m not, he was married to one. He’s doing better in his personal life than I am.”
Where is The Rock?
The Rock also appears to have disappeared from WWE storylines, last making a notable appearance during the angle with Scott and Cena.
Despite his senior position with the WWE, Heyman does not have any answers on that, saying: “I don’t know what happened with Dwayne.
“That’s something you should have Dwayne come into these beautiful Yahoo studios and answer for himself. I don’t know. Or have Brian Gerwitz come in and I’m sure he can tell you their side of the story, I don’t know.
“Especially WrestleMania, I had enough on my plate, I wasn’t really concerned with what happened with Cody Rhodes and John Cena’s storyline.”
‘The Final Boss’ Dwayne Johnson thought his job was done
Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show back in April, The Rock opened up on his state of mind following the angle with Scott during Elimination Chamber.
With Cena set for yet another historic title reign, Johnson decided it was time to step away from the limelight and allow the storyline to play out without him.
He said: “I knew then, the best thing for The Final Boss — we’ve established this idea of Cody’s soul, we can always come back to it.
“I did feel — and I made the call, ‘I don’t want to be involved in that. Let The Final Boss step back into the shadows. Let all the spotlight go to John and Cody. Let’s not make it about Cody’s soul or John’s soul. Let’s let them do what they do.’
“I called John after Elimination Chamber, called Cody, and I said, ‘I think The Final Boss’ work is done.
“We’ve established it. We just pulled off the greatest angle in the history of professional wrestling,’ other than Hulk Hogan turning heel.
“We have six weeks, now let’s build. You guys go and crush it. I’ll be right there with you and I’m always here if you need me, but I think it’s best for The Final Boss not to be involved in that finish.”
