Vince McMahon wants his reckless driving case dismissed. The former WWE boss filed a motion through his attorney, asking a Connecticut court to throw out the charges from his July crash.
Mark Sherman, McMahon’s lawyer, confirmed the filing on Tuesday. He explained that if the judge grants it, the motion “would ensure a complete dismissal of the case but still allows Vince to convey contrition and concern for the other drivers, which is his top priority.” A hearing has been set for mid-October.
Crash Details in Connecticut
Vince McMahon, 79, faces one count of reckless driving and another of following too closely. Both stem from the July 24 wreck on Route 15 in Westport, when McMahon’s 2024 Bentley rear-ended a BMW before smashing into a median guardrail. Debris from the crash struck a third car. Police confirmed all drivers wore seatbelts and no one was injured.
Barbara Doran, who drove the BMW, recalled the terrifying moment. “I was driving along in the right lane and suddenly, boom. I was hit from behind and catapulted forward and you can see the skid marks where I was trying desperately to keep on the road,” she said.
Doran, 72, added that a state trooper identified McMahon as the other driver. She remembered him expressing concern after the crash. “He was glad I was OK and I thanked him for his concern,” she explained. Photos later showed heavy damage to McMahon’s Bentley and the rear of Doran’s BMW.
Vince McMahon reckless driving hearing
Police released McMahon on a $500 bond after the wreck. He has not commented publicly, but his lawyer insists McMahon accepts responsibility for how the incident affected others.
The crash came during a turbulent period for McMahon. He resigned as WWE CEO in 2022 after a misconduct investigation, then stepped down as executive chairman of TKO Group Holdings last year following a lawsuit. McMahon has denied those allegations, which remain active in court.
Now attention turns to October’s hearing. The judge will decide whether Vince McMahon’s reckless driving case proceeds or is thrown out completely.
