John Cena says years in WWE prepared him to hide a new acting role as he made a brief cameo in Superman.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Cena said the Superman cameo felt easier because of pro wrestling. In WWE, talent and producers guard big moments closely.
“Oh, easy. Man, I’ve spent my life keeping secrets,” Cena said. “I’ve been lucky enough to have some of the only kept surprise moments in WWE in a day and age of information, and when he tells me not to say anything, I don’t say anything.”
The cameo comes as Cena juggles his farewell run in WWE with promoting season two of Peacemaker. Both the series and the new Superman movie come from director James Gunn. He convinced Cena to clear space in his schedule for the role.
“Well, when James Gunn calls, you pick up,” Cena said during The Tonight Show. “He’s like, ‘Hey, pal, I need you.’ I told him, ‘I don’t have the time.’ He said, ‘It’s for Superman.’ I’m like, ‘I’m there.’”
In Superman, John Cena briefly reprises his role as Christopher “Peacemaker” Smith. Fans will get a full return when Peacemaker season two lands on HBO Max on August 21. Expect new cameos, fresh storylines, and a new song for the series’ deadpan opening dance.
John Cena’s WWE farewell
Cena’s WWE farewell tour has dominated his 2025. He entered the year as a heel for the first time in over two decades. He won the Elimination Chamber, then beat Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 to become a record 17-time world champion.
The reign featured title defences against Randy Orton and CM Punk, along with a heated feud with R-Truth. In August, Cena turned face again after Rhodes beat him for the championship at SummerSlam. That night, Brock Lesnar returned and attacked him in the ring.
Cena will face Logan Paul at WWE Clash in Paris. The run blends nostalgia with fresh rivalries.
With his WWE career winding down, Cena’s footprint in Hollywood keeps growing. Between Superman, Peacemaker, and whatever Gunn calls him for next, he is showing the value of secrecy. It can pay off long after the final bell.
