Karrion Kross insists his WWE contract has expired, ending a three-year run and leaving him and wife Scarlett Bordeaux as free agents.
Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Kross detailed how talks with the company broke down in unusual fashion.
“The truth of the matter is… my contract was up last week,” he said.
“I got the offer and wanted to know how they came to the valuation of that offer. I just wanted, you know, some information, some metrics, some analytics that support, ‘Hey, this is how we got here.’”
When WWE wouldn’t provide those details, they gave Kross just 24 hours to decide. “I can’t make an informed decision without the information and I’d like to keep the dialogue open. And they rescinded the offer. And that’s… that’s actually where we’re at.”
He stressed he hasn’t walked away from the table, adding: “The goal has always been to be with WWE. My wife and I still want to be with WWE. We still want to work it out.”
Matt Hardy weighs in
On his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Hardy gave his perspective on the situation.
“He’s very good at keeping his name in the headlines, I can say that. I like Kevin, I like Killer/Karrion Kross,” Hardy said, recalling a one-off match they shared at Future Stars of Wrestling.
Hardy believes the contract expiry is genuine. “He is a guy that does kind of push the boundaries of what is real, what is fake, what is fiction, and what is reality.
“I think he’s done a great job doing this because there’s a lot of people that were certain that this was a big work. I think his contract has expired. That’s my professional take on it.”
For Hardy, the key now is sustaining momentum.
“If I was him, I would get out there on the indies and I would start doing really unique stuff. All that’s going to do is get more buzz. And he’s going to need ways to get more buzz on his name and keep headlines being generated about him.”
Hardy added that WWE will be watching closely. “It’s going to come down to his momentum and this groundswell of fans that are behind him… to force WWE’s hand and make them hire him back.”
