JOHN CENA REVEALS REASON FOR HAIR TRANSPLANT YEARS AFTER HE WAS ‘RUN OUT’ OF HOLLYWOOD

John Cena made headlines this week after opening up about his recent hair transplant during an interview with People Magazine.

The WWE star is currently in the midst of his final in-ring run with the company, which is set to culminate at the end of the year.

In recent times, wrestling fans began to notice a bald spot on the back of Cena’s head, which ultimately led the former WWE champion towards a hair transplant in November.

He said: “When I’m trying to hide my hair loss, the audience is just bringing it to light, like: ‘You’re going bald’.

“I used it as a thing of the point of the story we were in just because I also want the audience to know I see your signs, the one that says ‘Bald John Cena’, I get it but I also know it’s something I’m going through.

“I want to be genuine with that audience letting me know, either do some work or shave your head. They pushed me into going to see what my options were.

“I ended up getting a transplant last November and the crazy thing I came back I came back for the retirement tour starting in January.

“So I’m like alright successful surgery but I’ve got to get out there and go. It was not easy.”

Cena opens up on hair transplant stigma

Cena, who is a record 17-time world champion in the WWE, saw his latest title run come to an end at SummerSlam following a loss to Cody Rhodes.

To make matters worse, Cena was taken out by a returning Brock Lesnar at the end of the show – possibly marking the start of an exciting future storyline.

Cena will be able to go into the final months of his run without his previously noticeable bald spot being a distraction for viewers.

Shedding more light on the actual process of his hair transplant, and addressing the stigma that comes with it, Cena added: “I hate the fact that if there wasn’t so much shame around it, I’d have gotten it done 10 years ago.

“I thought I was alone, but seven or eight out of 10 [men] suffer from thinning or baldness.” He later added: “They don’t do anything except move your hair, one by one, from one area to another.”

Cena opens up on being ‘run out’ of Hollywood

During his interview with People Magazine, Cena admitted that his hair transplant could land him more work opportunities, saying: “A different hairstyle can identify a part that can get me more work, do the thing I love to do.”

The wrestler certainly understands how difficult it is to get work opportunities, having previously been ‘run out’ of the film industry.

He said: “I was run out of the movie business in 2009 for doing bad movies where I wasn’t present.”

The 48-year-old added: “I thought that just because I wore a golden leather belt on Monday and Friday, they’d come see whatever I’m doing. It’s not true.”

Cena started his acting career by landing roles in movies such as ‘The Marine’ and ’12 Rounds’. However, it wasn’t until the 2010s when he really began to see success in the industry, featuring in ‘Trainwreck’,  ‘Blockers’ and ‘The Suicide Squad’.

The American is currently enjoying success with ‘Peacemaker’ which is a 2021 movie that has been turned into a television series.
