Former UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones will appear before a judge for a bench trial on September 2 following two misdemeanour charges.
Jones will head to court to battle charges of leaving the scene of an accident and use of a telephone to terrify, intimidate, threaten, harass, annoy or offend.
The MMA superstar allegedly fled the scene after police responded to a crash where a woman was discovered in the passenger seat, showing signs of intoxication and lacking clothing from the waist down.
According to the woman, Jones was driving at the time of the accident and allegedly fled on foot.
Jon Jones has a history of legal troubles
This is not the first time that the former UFC star has faced legal problems.
Back in 2012, Jones drove his Bentley into a pole in New York and was arrested for driving under the influence.
Two years later, Jones had a famous altercation with Daniel Cormier ahead of UFC 178, which led the Nevada State Athletic Commission to fine him $50,000 and mandate 40 hours of community service.
In 2015, Jones was involved in a hit-and-run arrest before testing positive for a metabolite of cocaine ahead of UFC 182.
Another banned substance violation followed in 2016, while in 2020 he was arrested for aggravated driving while intoxicated and negligent use of a firearm in Albuquerque.
Jon Jones questioned over UFC exit
Jones initially retired from the UFC in June before making an astonishing U-turn in early August after revealing he re-entered UFC’s anti-doping program.
His move came shortly after Donald Trump’s announcement regarding a possible UFC event at the White House in 2026.
Despite his return to the testing pool, UFC boss Dana White has poured cold water over Jones’ return, citing concerns over his reliability.
Jones has also faced criticism online after a recent report suggested he turned down $30million to fight current UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall.
