DILLON DANIS WANTS ISLAM MAKHACHEV REVENGE IN UFC AMID CAREER RESURGENCE

Controversial MMA star Dillon Danis revealed he wants to get back at Islam Makhachev for their 2018 UFC melee.

Danis is in the midst of a career resurgence after going through a long period of inactivity.

The fighter enjoyed a successful return to competitive MMA on Saturday, defeating Warren Spencer at Misfits 22 in Manchester.

Danis, who was competing in his first MMA fight since 2019, submitted his opponent in a matter of seconds.

While Spencer may be a bit of an unknown in the combat sports world, Danis hopes these outings can help him land a bigger bout.

“Since the Logan fight, we had a bunch of fights, and I was trying to go, trying to go, ” he told TMZ.

“Eventually, I’m just like, ‘Alright if I’m just gonna be sitting around, I’m gonna fight’.

“Me taking a fight like this, getting my record up, getting more experience, people see me fighting, it’ll help me get those bigger fights.”

The 32-year-old continued: “I’m not gonna keep just sitting around waiting and these guys saying, ‘I don’t want to get submitted by Dillon.

“He’s 2-0 and I’m a legend.’ I’m sick of waiting. I’m just gonna go out there and show what I do and just take anybody.”

Danis talking to UFC

As one of the most polarizing figures in combat sports, Danis is hoping to cash-in on his popularity.

The American is looking to take on some of the biggest names in the business, despite being let down in the past.

“We had the [Mike] Perry fight signed,” he said. “We had Nate [Diaz] almost there. We had [Jorge] Masvidal almost there. We had [Donald] Cerrone almost there. So many other guys that I could keep going.”

When asked whether he had any communication with the UFC, Danis said: “I’ve talked to Hunter [Campbell], Hunter’s saying he needs me to stay active.”

If he could fight anyone in the UFC, Danis admitted he would like to square off with Islam Makhachev.

The pair were involved in a massive melee after Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated Conor McGregor at UFC 229 back in 2018.

He said: “Get my revenge that I always said I would get after that night he punched me in the back of the head at least six times.

“I never pressed charges, I didn’t do anything, I said I’ll get my revenge one day, so that would be a way to finish that storyline, me and Islam for the belt.”
