WWE superstar JD McDonagh lived up to his ‘heel’ persona on Sunday after infuriating fans in Newcastle with a hilarious stunt.
The WWE are currently touring the UK, with the wrestling roadshow making an appearance on Tyneside last weekend.
McDonagh took the opportunity to rile the locals, with the Irishman unveiling a Liverpool top mid-way through his match.
The relationship between the two clubs has been strained in recent weeks, with the Premier League champions looking to sign Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.
McDonagh took full advantage of the beef as he taunted the spectators, receiving a chorus of boos.
The locals were even more riled when the wrestler turned around to reveal he had Isak’s name on the back of his Liverpool top.
The abuse from the crowd ramped up, with McDonagh cupping his ear to the Utilita Arena crowd.
Oooh, now that’s just rude, @jd_mcdonagh! 🙄#WWENewcastle pic.twitter.com/dGtfOwUoAu

Why was the stunt controversial?
The saga surrounding Isak and his proposed move to Liverpool has been one of the biggest talking points in soccer over the past months.
After enjoying a tremendous season with Newcastle, the Swedish striker has been a wanted man throughout the summer.
The Magpies are not keen to part ways with Isak for anything short of $200m, though Liverpool’s last bid was some way off that number.
Transfer speculation has continued, while Isak’s relationship with his current employers has deteriorated.
The player is intent on leaving the Magpies and has not trained with him teammates since. He also missed their opening match of the new season against Aston Villa.
As tensions between Newcastle and Isak continue to ramp up, Liverpool are waiting in the wings, looking for another opportunity to strike a deal.
McDonagh, who was evidently aware of the situation, made the most of it as he bolstered his heel persona in the WWE ring.
