Tom Brady has revealed that his dog Junie is a clone of his late pit bull mix, Lua.
The former NFL star shared the news on Tuesday, confirming that Junie was created using blood drawn from Lua before her death in 2023.
Tom Brady cloned his late dog
“I love my animals. They mean the world to me and my family,” Brady said. “A few years ago, I worked with Colossal and leveraged their non-invasive cloning technology through a simple blood draw of our family’s elderly dog before she passed.”

Colossal Biosciences, a Dallas-based biotech company that Brady invests in, handled the cloning process. The company announced its partnership with Viagen Pets and Equine on the same day, a firm known for cloning Barbra Streisand and Paris Hilton’s dogs.
“The company gave my family a second chance with a clone of our beloved dog,” Brady said. “I’m excited about how Colossal and Viagen’s tech together can help both families losing their beloved pets while helping to save endangered species.”
Brady adopted Lua with ex-wife Gisele Bündchen during their marriage. The couple shared the pit bull mix with their children, Benjamin and Vivian, before Lua’s death in December 2023.
Bündchen posted a tribute on Instagram at the time, writing, “Our little Lulu, our guardian angel, is gone to heaven. She will forever live in our hearts. We already miss her sooooo much!”
Brady also shared his own message online: “We love you, Lua, RIP. Forever in our hearts.”
Lua became a familiar face to fans over the years. She appeared in Brady’s 2014 UGG Australia commercial and often featured in his social media posts.
When Lua died, Brady brought home Junie, a near-perfect lookalike. The new dog’s identical features sparked speculation among fans before Tuesday’s announcement confirmed the truth.
Colossal provides conservation technology
Colossal described its work with Brady as an example of how cloning can preserve cherished animals while advancing conservation technology.
The company has gained global attention for its “de-extinction” projects, including efforts to resurrect the dodo bird and dire wolf species.
Brady remains one of Colossal’s most high-profile investors. He joined the company’s backers in 2023 as it expanded its biotechnology and genetic research divisions.
The 47-year-old retired quarterback has often spoken about his passion for animals and nature.
During his playing career, he and Bündchen frequently adopted and fostered rescue dogs while raising their family between Boston and Florida.
Junie now joins Brady’s household alongside Fluffy, the family’s rescue dog.
