Travis Kelce played a major role in Happy Gilmore 2, but it’s been revealed that one of the film’s most bizarre moments almost played out very differently.
The actor behind the bear suit has revealed there was a deleted take where things got more steamy than slapstick.
Brandon Alan Smith, who played the honey-hungry bear that mauls a shirtless, honey-smeared Kelce, told TMZ Sports that an alternate version had the bear licking Travis “all over.”
The gag involved a giant fake tongue built into the suit. Smith dragged it across the Kansas City Chiefs star in a sequence that never made the final cut.
“It was hilarious, but definitely a little too much,” Smith laughed. “We shot it, but it didn’t make the film. Maybe that’s for the best.” The scene has already become one of the film’s most talked-about cameos.
Bad Bunny appears by dousing Kelce in honey before the bear enters for the mock mauling. The surreal crossover gave fans a moment they didn’t know they needed.
Taylor Swift added her own stamp on the moment last week. She called Smith’s performance “exquisite” during her appearance on the New Heights podcast.
That earned him bragging rights at home. He admitted he had no idea at the time he was rolling around with Swift’s superstar boyfriend.
“I didn’t even know who Travis was until later,” Smith said. “My daughter had to fill me in.”
The actor also praised Travis Kelce for throwing himself into the Happy Gilmore 2 role. He said the NFL star took direction with no ego and was “wonderful” to work with.
The final cut shows Kelce being mauled rather than tenderly licked. Knowing there’s an alternate version in the Netflix vault is enough to keep the buzz alive.
Happy Gilmore 2 dropped in late July with Adam Sandler back as the explosive golfer. Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald and Ben Stiller all returned.
Cameos from Kid Cudi, Eminem, Post Malone and Margaret Qualley helped fill out the cast. But it’s Kelce’s sticky run-in with the bear, and the story of what fans didn’t see, that has stolen the spotlight.
