Travis Kelce has finally lifted the lid on his proposal to Taylor Swift, admitting he cried when he got down on one knee.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end spoke to Erin Andrews ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl rematch with the Eagles. He revealed nerves got the better of him in the moment.
Travis Kelce reveals emotional proposal
“There were a few tears here and there. I’m an emotional guy,” Kelce said. “The palms were definitely sweating. It’s been an exciting ride up to this day. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with her.”
Kelce stopped short of sharing every detail. “She can tell that story,” he joked, leaving Swift to fill in the blanks.
The couple confirmed their engagement in August with a joint Instagram post that collected more than 37 million likes. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the caption read.
Photos showed Kelce on one knee alongside Swift, who displayed her diamond ring in a flower-filled shoot.
Asked what Swift had brought to his life, Kelce pointed to her impact off the field. “She has brought excitement and a joy for life that has made me a better man, made me a better person, and made me that much more comfortable in who I am.”
Swift regularly shows up at Arrowhead Stadium and plans to return on Sunday. Her appearances last season sparked a surge in NFL ratings and even helped boost Chiefs merchandise sales.
For Kelce, the new campaign comes after speculation he might retire. “You guys didn’t think I was going to come back? No way,” he told Andrews. “I’m still a big kid on Sundays. I’ve still got a lot to prove.”
When Erin Andrews asked what he wanted his legacy to be, Kelce kept the focus on his team. “That I was a good teammate, a good person in the community,” he said.
