Minnesota Vikings star J.J. McCarthy missed Thursday’s training session in order to be with his fiancée, Katya Kuropas.
A report in the Star Tribune revealed that the quarterback went to be with his partner, who went into labor with their first child.
Last May, the couple announced they were expecting a baby boy. That came just five months from the pair announcing their engagement.
McCarthy and Kuropas began dating when they both were in high school at Nazareth Academy in La Grange Park, Ill.
The pair will celebrate their seven years together in October.

J.J. McCarthy impressed on NFL debut
The birth of his first son means McCarthy will be away from the Vikings as they prepare for a Week 2 clash with the Falcons at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday night.
The quarterback, who missed all of his rookie season due to a knee injury, impressed on his long-awaited NFL debut.
McCarthy threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes and ran for another as Minnesota picked up a 27-24 victory over the Chicago Bears on Monday night.
His fiancee celebrated the season-opening win on Instagram: ““What a night!! So proud of you. Keep showin em.”
Impressive college record
The 22-year-old is hoping to match his high expectations in the NFL. This comes after his impressive spell for Michigan.
Back in 2021, McCarthy was a freshman, working his way up from being a backup. By 2022 and 2023, he was a regular starter.
His 2023 season was particularly memorable. The quarterback led Michigan to an undefeated 15-0 record and won the College Football Playoff National Championship, which was Michigan’s first since 1997.
During his time in college, McCarthy had an exceptional winning record (27-1), among the best for quarterbacks in modern college football.
