An NFL ‘Karen’ has reacted to criticism after she stole a birthday gift to a 10-year-old from Patrick Mahomes during a Kansas City Chiefs game.
Karens are running wild at sports stadiums across the NFL at the moment. After a Philadelphia Phillies fan went crazy and accused a father at an MLB game from stealing a game ball from her grasp to give to his son – ensuring she got it for herself – there’s been a second occasion of a piece of memorabilia being stolen at a sports game.
This time, it happened in the NFL, when Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Mahomes tried to give his headband to a young supporter in the crowd after beating the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.
As he tried to pass his headband to the boy – a 10-year-old on his birthday – a female Giants fan snatched it. The young fan said off camera on the video: “She just snatched that from me.”
She has since responded on social media after gaining backlash, suggesting she didn’t know Mahomes wasn’t looking to give it to her.
She said on TikTok: “Guys, I just want to talk to you for one minute from my heart.
“At the game, with all the noise and all the excitement, I honestly thought that Pat Mahomes was giving me the headband. I reached for it without thinking.
“Later I found out that it was meant for that little boy for his 10th birthday.
“When I found out I felt horrible, because I don’t want to ruin anyone’s little time at the game and ruin their little birthday.
“To the young boy, I’m sorry that I ruined your moment. You should have had your moment for your birthday.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry to everyone, but most of all, I’m sorry to Joey. I’m sorry I ruined your day, it wasn’t my intention, I swear.”
Wife of Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt, Tavia, has posted on social media looking to find the young fan, presumably to compensate him for missing out on Mahomes’ memorabilia.
