Kris Boyd has spoken publicly for the first time since the Manhattan shooting that left him in critical condition on Sunday morning.
Kris Boyd shot in Manhattan
The New York Jets cornerback was wounded in the abdomen after an altercation outside Sei Less in midtown.
Police responded to a 911 call at around 2am local time, and Boyd was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
The Jets confirmed Boyd was the victim, though the NYPD did not name him. The incident remains under investigation, and no arrests have been made.
Boyd has now shared a brief update from his hospital bed. The 29-year-old posted a photo on Instagram alongside a short message revealing he is beginning to breathe without assistance.
“God is real, God is powerful!” he wrote. “I’m sorry, I have no words at the moment..Just grateful! I’m coming along, starting to breathe on my own now. Sincerely appreciate everyone!”
His comments are the first time fans have heard directly from him since the shooting.

NYPD investigators later released photos of a man they believe may be connected to the incident. Officers said he was wearing all-black clothing, a black cap, and coloured sneakers.
The Jets issued a short statement on Sunday: “We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.”
Linebacker Jermaine Johnson was among the first to react publicly. He posted a message on X asking for prayers and support.
“Lord, please hold your healing hand over Kris and guide him back to health and safety,” he wrote. “Lord, I ask that you please just get him through this safely.”
Boyd joined the Jets earlier this year after spells with the Vikings, Cardinals, and Texans. He has been on injured reserve since August due to a shoulder injury suffered in practice, but he remained around the team during his recovery.
He is now receiving treatment as detectives continue to work on the case. The NYPD has not discussed potential motives or confirmed whether Boyd was specifically targeted.
Fans and teammates have continued to post messages of support as the NFL star begins what could be a long recovery process.
