NATE WIGGINS EJECTED AFTER THROWING PUNCHES IN RAVENS-COLTS JOINT PRACTICE FIGHT

Nate Wiggins was ejected from joint practice between the Baltimore Ravens and Indianapolis Colts after throwing multiple punches during a sideline-clearing fight.

The scuffle began 90 minutes into the session during a punt drill. Ravens backup cornerback Keyon Martin delivered a late shove on Colts running back Tyler Goodson after the whistle. When Goodson retaliated, Wiggins sprinted in from the sideline and threw several upper cuts to Goodson’s body.

Chaos followed. Players from both teams, including those not involved in the drill, stormed the field. It took officials several minutes to separate the pile.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh later said the incident offered a chance to learn.

“You don’t have to throw a punch to get thrown out of a game,” Harbaugh said. “You go back at them, they may throw you out. That’s what happened. It should be a learning experience for our team.”

Both Wiggins and Goodson were removed from practice. Wiggins watched the remainder from a window inside the Ravens’ facility.

Colts safety Camryn Bynum saw it coming. “You can’t get out of a joint practice without a fight,” he said. “That’s just special teams. That’s the dog mindset. It’s all love at the end of the day.”

Colts head coach Shane Steichen echoed the sentiment. “We always talk about not fighting,” he said. “But obviously one skirmish broke out. I thought the guys handled it well after that.”

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson kept his distance. “I’m chilling. I know the cameras are on all of us, so I really can’t do too much,” he told reporters. “But I feel like our guys handled their own.”

Wiggins, Baltimore’s 2024 first-round pick, will take over Brandon Stephens’ spot as a starting cornerback in the NFL this season. He broke up 13 passes as a rookie and returned his lone interception for a touchdown in last year’s regular-season finale.

Earlier this week, Harbaugh had warned that second-day joint practices often see things boil over. Tuesday’s fight happened on day one.

Ravens teammate Nnamdi Madubuike later heard about the incident secondhand. “Nate was slugging somebody,” he said.

Marlon Humphrey also posted a locker room video asking Wiggins what happened. Wiggins didn’t respond.

The two teams will meet again on Thursday in Baltimore for their preseason opener.
