Detroit Lions safety Morice Norris has assured fans he is “all good” and appreciates “all the love” after a pre-season game was suspended when he was knocked unconscious.
The Lions were up against the Atlanta Falcons in a pre-season game, with the score at 17-10 in their favour when Norris was knocked unconscious.
Attempting to tackle Falcons running back Nathan Carter, Norris mistimed his tackle, and his head and neck were snapped back by Carter’s midsection, immediately knocking the Lions defender unconscious.
The coaches of the two sides, Dan Campbell and Raheem Morris, agreed not to finish the game in light of Norris’ injury, which Norris called “common courtesy.”
That was after the Falcons players had forfeited a snap in respect of their opponents, and both sets of players had huddled in a circle in the middle of the field.
After the injury, the Lions posted an update stating Norris was in a stable condition, and would be staying in hospital overnight for observation.
Norris has further allayed fans’ fears on social media. He posted: ‘Amen Amen I’m all good man don’t stress it appreciate all the check ins and love.’
He also posted a bible verse alongside his own statement: “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
The injury had clearly shook up the Lions players, as quarterback Kyle Allen said: “When it’s taking that long, with that many people and that many trainers around him, you’re just hoping for the best.
“It’s just awful. … You sign up for football and you understand the risk, you understand the injury risk. You never think something like that is going to happen.
“At the end of the day we’re all out here as football players. We may be on 32 different teams but we’ve all played football our whole lives and had our own injuries and been through it.”
