Ed Kelce has shared new details about his son’s proposal to Taylor Swift. In an interview, Travis Kelce’s father explained how the Kansas City Chiefs star wanted the moment to be more than just ordinary.
“He was going to put her off ‘til this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event,” Ed told News 5 Cleveland. But he admitted he gave his son a different perspective. “You could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event,” he said.
Ed also revealed that Taylor’s father, Scott Swift, offered Travis similar advice. Both dads reminded him that the setting mattered less than the question itself. With that in mind, Travis kept things simple and proposed two weeks ago at his Missouri home.
The approach was low-key. Travis asked Taylor to join him for a glass of wine, then dropped to one knee. “They got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful,” Ed said.
News of the engagement quickly spread through the families. Travis and Taylor FaceTimed both sets of parents right away. “As soon as I saw the call, I knew what they were going to say,” Ed recalled.
He also admitted he had known about Travis’ plan for months. He expected the proposal might happen during last season, but the timing proved right this summer.
Watching his son follow through left him proud. “They’re just two young people very much in love, cast in a spotlight they really haven’t sought,” he said.
The couple later confirmed the news on Instagram with a playful caption: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
Swift showed off her antique-inspired ring, and jeweler Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry designed it. The piece features an Old Mine brilliant cut diamond, chosen by Kelce himself.
