Hollywood royalty Denzel Washington has laid into Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones claiming he is just ‘thinking about his pockets’.
Washington, who has been a lifelong Cowboys fan since the 1960s, appeared on ESPN’s First Take with Spike Lee to promote their new movie Highest 2 Lowest.
“I don’t like what Dallas is doing. I know they’re making a lot of money and I’m happy for the owner, but the fans ain’t happy,” said Washington.
“I’ve been a Cowboys fan since the 60s. He’s making it hard for me.”
“Not to be a fan because I’m still a Cowboys fan. I’m still going to have the star on the side of the hat.
“But he ain’t thinking about us. He’s thinking about his pockets.
“There’s box office and there’s Oscars. Jerry, been a while, huh? You ain’t been to the show, you wouldn’t know. Haven’t been to the show, so you wouldn’t know what it is to win.
“I love Cowboys cuz I really love them. This is why I feel the way I feel.
“All money ain’t good money, Jerry.”
Many are surprised that Washington is a Cowboys fan. Yet he gravitated towards them through his Boys Club in Mount Vernon, New York.
They were nicknamed was the Red Raiders and played like the Cowboys, which is why he eventually nailed his colours to the Cowboys mast.
Washington’s support of sports sides seems to be a bit scattergun. He supports the New York Yankees in Major League and the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA where he has season tickets. This sounds like the Supporting remit of a big club glory-hunting fan, but we couldn’t possibly comment.
