WHAT THE FIRST EXCLUSIVE CLIP OF ESPN’S ‘THE KINGDOM’ REVEALS ABOUT MAHOMES

Patrick Mahomes takes centre stage in ESPN’s upcoming docuseries The Kingdom, which charts the Kansas City Chiefs’ 2024 season and celebrates the franchise’s place in NFL history.

It also shows how his rise to stardom began long before he stepped onto an NFL field.

The series, launching August 14, opens a window into Mahomes’ childhood with rare home footage. In an exclusive clip shared with People Sports clip, a two-year-old swings a baseball bat in the living room while his parents, Randi and Pat Mahomes Sr., toss him pitches.

“Baseball was probably the biggest part of my life growing up,” says the three-time Super Bowl champion. Pat Sr., who pitched in MLB from 1992 to 2003, remembers seeing the signs early.

“As soon as he came out, he’s had a ball in his hand,” he says. “I don’t know if he thought he was going to be a professional athlete, but he always lived his life like he was going to be one.”

Randi paints the same picture. “I used to call him the Energizer Bunny because he never stopped,” she says.

“I’d go to sleep and wake up and he would have a game going in my bedroom. He would be running bases at two and three years old. He knew it, and that was what his passion was.”

Patrick Mahomes believes The Kingdom shows the real story. “It’s more than just a football story,” he explains. “It’s about the heart, the family, and the grind it takes to build something great. Chiefs Kingdom is special, and this series shows what makes it all go.”

Director Kristen Lappas says the “real magic and heart” came from the people inside the organisation. “Their candor shows fans how the dynasty came to be, and why the Chiefs are such a singular organisation.”

Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt calls The Kingdom “a tribute to everyone who has helped shape the franchise over the past 60 years,” while Mahomes says fans “are really going to enjoy seeing what we’re all about.”

Episodes 1 and 2 premiere on ESPN at 9 p.m. ET on August 14, with all six available on ESPN+ and Disney+.
