PATRICK MAHOMES’ FATHER JAILED AFTER ALLEGED PROBATION VIOLATION LINKED TO ALCOHOL

Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes, is in jail in Texas after authorities alleged he violated the terms of his probation, extending a legal situation that began with a DWI arrest in 2024.

Jail records show officers booked Mahomes Sr., 55, into the Smith County Jail in Tyler on Tuesday morning. The arrest followed an alleged probation breach connected to an alcohol-monitoring device.

Alleged violation triggers arrest

Smith County District Attorney Jacob Putman told local outlet KLTV that Mahomes Sr.’s ankle monitor recorded a high alcohol reading on January 1.

Court documents later obtained by TMZ show that Mahomes Sr. submitted urine tests on January 5 and January 9, both of which reportedly returned negative results at the time.

Despite that, authorities proceeded with a probation violation filing. Prosecutors have filed a motion to pursue the alleged breach, and Mahomes Sr. can challenge the claim in court. The court has not set a hearing date.

Probation stems from 2024 DWI arrest

In February 2024, Mahomes Sr. was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Tyler, Texas. Police recorded his blood alcohol content at 0.23, nearly three times the legal limit.

He later pleaded guilty and, in September 2024, received a sentence of five years’ probation. Under Texas law, a confirmed violation could carry a prison sentence of up to 10 years.

Court records also show that the 2024 arrest marked his third DWI offence.

Prior arrests on record

In 2018, he was arrested on a similar charge and sentenced to 40 days in county jail, which he served on weekends between February 2019 and February 2020, according to reporting by the Kansas City Star.

The repeated offences have kept him under court supervision since his most recent conviction.

Patrick Mahomes previously addressed the effect of his father’s arrest during the 2024 Super Bowl period.

Speaking on ESPN’s Chiefs Kingdom last year, the quarterback described the situation as difficult, particularly because it shifted public attention onto his family during a championship run.

Mahomes Sr. has also spoken about the fallout, admitting the situation was embarrassing and acknowledging that he contacted his son to apologise for becoming a distraction.

Career beyond the courtroom

Before his legal troubles, Mahomes Sr. spent 11 seasons in Major League Baseball, pitching for five teams including the Minnesota Twins, New York Mets, and Texas Rangers.

He later earned induction into the Sioux Falls Canaries Hall of Fame and remained a regular presence around his son’s sporting career.
