Gervonta “Tank” Davis is wanted by police in Florida after authorities issued an arrest warrant linked to an alleged domestic violence incident from October.
Miami Gardens Police confirmed on Wednesday that they are actively searching for the undefeated boxing champion, with support from the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.
Davis faces three charges: battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping.
At a press conference on Wednesday, police made clear that officers now consider the case a priority.
“At this time, the Miami Gardens Police Department is actively working with the United States Marshal’s fugitive task force to locate and apprehend Mr. Davis,” executive officer Emmanuel Jeanty said.
“Domestic violence is a serious crime, and the Miami Gardens Police Department remains committed to holding offenders accountable and protecting victims.”
Allegations stem from October incident
Police say the alleged incident occurred on October 27 at a gentlemen’s club in Miami Gardens, where the woman worked. She reported the incident two days later.
According to police, the woman alleged Davis approached her inside the venue, grabbed her by the back of the head with one hand and by the throat with the other, then forcefully escorted her down a stairway toward the parking garage.
She told officers that Davis maintained his grip as he pulled her through the building. Once they reached the parking area, she claimed he released her. She then ran toward coworkers for safety.
Investigators say the lead detective reviewed surveillance footage that “corroborates key elements of the victim’s statements.”
“The investigation determined that Mr. Davis used force to restrain in an attempt to remove the victim from the location against her will,” Jeanty said.
Civil lawsuit already filed
The arrest warrant follows a civil lawsuit filed by the woman in late October. Court documents state the two had an intimate relationship for approximately five months before it ended about a month before the alleged incident.
Police say the woman blocked all forms of communication after the relationship ended.
Her attorney, Jeff Chukwuma, said the criminal investigation aligns directly with the civil case.
“What the police said is exactly in line with our lawsuit,” he told ESPN. “They determined it was enough to get a judge to sign off on an arrest warrant.”
Boxing fallout and personal issues
The allegations have already affected Davis’ boxing career.
He was scheduled to face Jake Paul in a high-profile bout in November. However, organizers scrapped the fight after the claims surfaced. Paul later fought Anthony Joshua instead.
So far, Davis has not publicly commented on the accusations or the warrant. Meanwhile, the case adds to a growing list of legal issues surrounding the 31-year-old boxer.
Previously, Davis faced charges related to domestic violence and fleeing the scene of a crash. In 2023, he received 90 days of house arrest and three years of probation following a hit-and-run case in Baltimore.
