Former NBA star Lamar Odom was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Nevada over the weekend, the latest chapter in a troubled spell that has played out in the public eye.
Authorities confirmed that officers pulled the former NBA champion over late Saturday night on Interstate 15 near Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas.
Odom, now 46, faces citations on suspicion of driving under the influence, excessive speed, and failing to properly maintain a travel lane. He was later released from custody and was no longer listed as being held as of Tuesday.
Traffic stop leads to arrest
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, officers stopped Odom after observing driving behaviour that raised concerns.
Troopers issued citations for multiple violations alongside the DUI suspicion.
No attorney has publicly commented on Odom’s behalf, and authorities have not yet said whether toxicology results will factor into any charging decision.
The arrest itself passed without incident. However, it was significant given Odom’s history and his public efforts to rebuild his life.
‘I am learning from this experience’
Odom addressed the situation directly after his release, attempting to calm concerns about his well-being while acknowledging the seriousness of the moment.
“I am learning from this experience and remain committed to my continued growth,” Odom said. “I’ve worked hard to rebuild my life, and taking responsibility is an essential part of that process.”
He continued by stressing accountability rather than deflection.
“I am cooperating fully, staying honest, and focused on moving forward with integrity,” Odom added. “Thank you to those who continue to support me.”
Odom has denied being under the influence of alcohol or narcotics at the time of the arrest, though he did not specify what officers cited in their report. He has not contested the stop itself.
Odom has previous
Odom was also arrested for DUI in California in 2013.
Two years later, he survived a life-threatening medical emergency during a stay at a Nevada brothel, an episode that placed him on life support and marked a turning point in his public battle with addiction.
In 2018, Odom launched his own organic cannabis line, saying it helped him recover from a near-fatal drug overdose.
Since then, he has spoken openly about recovery, sobriety, and attempts to help others facing similar struggles. The latest incident, however, shows how fragile that progress can appear from the outside.
Life in the Kardashian spotlight
Odom’s personal life has long drawn attention beyond sport, particularly during his highly publicised marriage to Khloé Kardashian.
The pair married in 2009, starred together on reality television, and divorced in 2016 following years marked by instability and addiction issues.
Kardashian later described the emotional toll of supporting someone battling dependency.
