The man accused of shooting Kris Boyd in Midtown Manhattan has been formally indicted, as the NFL cornerback continues to recover from life-threatening injuries more than two months later.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. confirmed on Wednesday that 20-year-old Frederick Green now faces attempted murder, assault, and multiple weapons charges stemming from the November incident.
The indictment moves the case into New York State Supreme Court and raises the legal stakes significantly, while Boyd’s medical recovery remains ongoing.
Attempted murder charge confirmed
Prosecutors say Green fired two shots outside a Midtown restaurant in the early hours of November 16, following a physical altercation that escalated quickly.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, Boyd was struck in the groin and abdomen. One bullet fragment entered a vein, passed through his pulmonary artery, and lodged in his lung.
Bragg said Boyd continues to suffer complications from the gunshot wound, highlighting the severity of the injuries.
“As alleged, Frederick Green fired two shots outside of a restaurant in Midtown Manhattan, nearly turning a physical altercation into a fatal one,” Bragg said.
“Gun violence has no place in Manhattan. My thoughts are with the victim who continues to heal from this near-fatal shooting.”
Green was indicted on one count of attempted murder in the second degree, one count of first-degree assault, and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Boyd’s recovery remains ongoing
Boyd broke his silence days after the shooting with a brief update from his hospital bed. In a post shared on Instagram, he revealed he had begun breathing without assistance.
“God is real, God is powerful!” Boyd wrote. “I’m sorry, I have no words at the moment. Just grateful. I’m coming along, starting to breathe on my own now.”
It marked the first time fans heard directly from Boyd following the shooting.
More recently, Boyd disclosed that he has required multiple cardiovascular surgeries as a result of the injuries. Prosecutors confirmed that medical complications persist more than eight weeks later.
The shooting occurred just days after Boyd and his wife welcomed a newborn baby, a detail later confirmed by Jets coach Aaron Glenn.
“Once I heard about the situation, the first thing I thought about was he just had a kid,” Glenn said at the time. “I’m thinking about his wife. I’m thinking about his kid.”
