Speculation around surprise guests began almost immediately after Bad Bunny was confirmed as the Super Bowl halftime headliner.
J Balvin’s name surfaced repeatedly. He has now shut that down.
Balvin confirmed he will not appear during the halftime show at Super Bowl LX, despite his long-standing creative partnership with Bad Bunny and their shared history on the Super Bowl stage.
The two previously performed together during the Super Bowl LIV halftime show in 2020, alongside Jennifer Lopez and Shakira. A surprise reunion on stage in Mexico City last month only intensified expectations of another collaboration.
Balvin says that will not happen.
Balvin confirms he will not take the stage
Speaking to TMZ while in New York, Balvin made his position clear when asked about a potential guest appearance.
He said fans should not expect him to join Bad Bunny during the halftime performance. Balvin confirmed he will attend the Super Bowl, but only as a spectator.
Balvin explained that he has already shared that moment and sees no need to repeat it. His message was straightforward. He has done it before and is content to step aside.
That confirmation brings an end to weeks of online speculation and rules out one of the most obvious guest candidates.
Bad Bunny will headline the NFL’s official halftime show at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on February 8. The league confirmed his selection last fall and has remained firm in its backing despite mixed reactions in some corners.
Bad Bunny has framed the performance as a celebration of culture, history, and representation.
Rival halftime show claims
Alongside the official NFL plans, a separate storyline continues to hover over this year’s Super Bowl. Turning Point USA has claimed it will stage an alternative halftime show during the game.
The organisation announced its intention shortly after Bad Bunny was named headliner, positioning the move as a response to the artist’s political views.
So far, details remain scarce.
Turning Point USA has not confirmed who will perform, where the show will take place, or whether it will even air live. It has also declined to outline how the event would be distributed or accessed.
In a statement to TMZ, the group said its “All American Halftime Show” will not reveal performers until it begins.
That lack of information has raised questions over whether the rival show will materialise at all or remain a symbolic counterpoint rather than a full production.
More than 100 million viewers are expected to watch the Super Bowl. Whether Turning Point USA’s alternative plans come together remains unclear.
