Dana White emphatically shut down Francis Ngannou’s hopes of a stunning UFC comeback at Donald Trump’s White House mega-event.
The former UFC heavyweight champion had publicly talked up a return to face Jon Jones on the historic card planned for June, an event Trump has promoted as the centrepiece of America’s 250th birthday celebrations.
Instead, White has made it clear there is no route back for Ngannou, delivering a brutal response that leaves little room for negotiation.
Dana White on Francis Ngannou
“Nothing has made me happier than throwing that guy to the PFL,” White said on The Mac Life podcast. “If we let fighters go, it’s for good reasons. I don’t want to do business with people I don’t like and don’t consider to be good people.”
Ngannou walked away from the UFC in January 2023 after a public breakdown in relations with White, despite holding the heavyweight title at the time. He later signed with the PFL, who allowed him to pursue crossover boxing bouts alongside MMA.
With that deal nearing its end after just one fight, Ngannou has been openly searching for his next move and repeatedly returned to the idea of a Jones showdown.
“If we want to see the greatest fight of all time, this is what we have to do,” Ngannou said earlier this year. “The greatest fight in history can only happen between Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou.”
The UFC president has recently gone further than before in explaining why he wants nothing more to do with Ngannou, accusing him of a physical confrontation during contract talks in 2023.
White accuses Ngannou of physicality
“He had just fought and he comes up to my office,” White said during an appearance on Andrew Schulz’s FLAGRANT podcast. “I said, ‘What’s going on?’ And he was p***ed off that he didn’t get a $50,000 bonus.
“I’m starting to leave and he grabs me by my shirt and pushes me back in my office. I said, ‘Dude, get your f***ing hands off me.’
“I could see in this guy’s face and in his eyes and in the way he’s acting who this guy really f***ing is,” he said. “This guy’s not a good f***ing guy. He’s a bad guy.”
White also alleged a similar confrontation took place shortly afterwards involving UFC executive Hunter Campbell.
“When Hunter started to walk away, Francis grabbed him by the f***ing back of his collar and pulled him back and said, ‘We’re not done talking yet.’”
The comments have effectively ended any speculation around Ngannou appearing on the White House card, which Trump has described as featuring “eight or nine championship fights” and “the biggest fights they’ve ever had.”
