Marcus Morris may have paid $300,000 to pay settle fraud and theft charges he labelled a misunderstanding, but newly released footage of the arrest video shows the NBA star in shackles at Florida airport.
The footage captureds Broward County Sheriff’s deputies approaching Morris and his family at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on July 27. They told him he faced an outstanding warrant linked to a fraud case in Las Vegas.
Cameras recorded deputies cuffing his wrists before seating him in a wheelchair. They then shackled his ankles, explaining the restraints were part of a new policy. Morris did not hide his displeasure, shaking his head as they fastened the chains.
Officers walked back to his twin brother, Markieff Morris, to hand over his belongings. They told him Marcus would remain in custody at Broward County jail without bond. Moments later, they rolled Marcus through the terminal toward a waiting squad car.

The arrest connected to accusations that Morris wrote checks with insufficient funds in Las Vegas. Prosecutors alleged he owed more than $250,000 to two casinos. Authorities filed a fraud charge, and deputies booked him shortly after his arrival in Florida.
Morris spent two nights behind bars before clearing the case. He told the court he paid off his debts, and officials dismissed the charge once payments were confirmed.
After his release, he described the ordeal as “awful” in an Instagram post, adding that he wished authorities had handled the matter differently.
The video has reignited debate over the arrest. Some fans argued the shackles were unnecessary for a nonviolent charge, while police pointed to their updated custody rules.
The footage shows how strictly those policies now apply, even to professional athletes.
Morris has spent more than a decade in the NBA, known for his toughness and versatility across several teams, including the Suns, Pistons, Clippers, and Mavericks. While his case is now closed, the footage ensures people will not forget his arrest.
Instead of highlight reels, the latest images of Marcus Morris show him chained, wheeled through an airport, and taken to jail — a stark reminder of how quickly off-court trouble can overshadow a basketball career.
