US police are now clamping down on the recent spate of sex toy throwers at WNBA games, after a second man was arrested.
Kaden Lopez, was caught throwing a green sex toy towards the court in Phoenix Mercury’s game against the Connecticut Sun. Although it hit a fan rather than reach its intended target.
18-year-old Lopez was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, assault and public display of explicit sexual material, according to Fox 10 Phoenix.
“Video footage shows Lopez, sitting in his seat, he retrieves the green dildo from his sweater front pocket then throws the dildo forward. He then stands up and leaves the area,” a court document read.
The man who was struck by the sex toy now reportedly wants to take legal action.
“The adult male victim was interviewed. He stated he was watching the WNBA game with his 9-year-old niece, when something hit his back then fell to the ground next to them. He realized the object that hit him was a dildo. He desires prosecution,” continued the court document.
In an apology Lopez described his actions as a “stupid prank that was trending on social media.”
This is now the fifth reported incident of sex toys being thrown at WNBA games, a trend that started in late July.
Delbert Carver reportedly faces charges of disorderly conduct, public indecency/indecent exposure and criminal trespass after throwing a sex toy at the Golden State Valkyries and Atlanta Dream game.
Fever Forward Sophie Cunningham pleaded with fans on social media to “stop throwing dildos on the court… you’re going to hurt one of us”. But on Tuesday night a sex toy landed near her during the second quarter of Tuesday’s game with the Indiana Fever.
After the game at Crypto.com Arena, Sparks coach Lynne Roberts said: “It’s ridiculous, it’s dumb, it’s stupid. It’s also dangerous. Player safety is No. 1, respecting the game, all those things. I think it’s really stupid.”
WNBA to take immediate action
The WNBA has issued warnings against people throwing objects on the court, and they could face charges.
“The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league,” the WNBA said in a statement.
“Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans. In line with WNBA Arena Security Standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities.”
