COPS REVEAL PIZZA DELIVERY PLOY AMID CHRISTIAN WOOD BREAK-IN PROBE

Los Angeles police believe a recent break-in to the property of NBA star Christian Wood involved a bizarre scouting trick. Investigators now say the suspects used a pizza delivery to check whether anyone was home before forcing their way inside.

A newly released search warrant details how a Domino’s driver arrived at Wood’s Sherman Oaks Airbnb just after midday on November 5. Wood was inside, although he ignored the knock because he had not ordered anything.

Moments later, three masked suspects smashed the rear sliding door and stepped into the house.

Police say Wood ran to his bedroom, grabbed a firearm, and fired three shots that sent the group sprinting back out of the property. No one was hurt, and nothing was taken.

Pizza delivery used to sound out burglary

The warrant reveals that the pizza order was placed shortly before noon. About thirty minutes later, someone phoned the store to ask whether the delivery had been completed. Staff confirmed the driver had tried the address, but no one answered.

Detectives traced the number linked to the call, but it led nowhere. It leaves officers convinced the delivery was a deliberate test run.

That theory adds to an already chaotic afternoon, because officers shared even more detail about the weapon involved.

Police previously said Wood fired three or four rounds at the ground to scare the suspects off. Wood told them the gun was not his and claimed he found it inside the two-story rental home.

According to LAPD sources, the firearm turned out to be a ghost gun fitted with a high-capacity magazine. Both items are illegal in California, which adds another layer to an investigation that already reads like a rejected Hollywood script.

Detectives will now run ballistics and DNA tests as they track where the weapon came from and who left it in the Airbnb.

Suspects remain at large

The suspects, described as three males, were last seen running down Otsego Street towards Sepulveda Boulevard and jumping into a grey Jeep Grand Cherokee. Police have not confirmed whether any were struck.

The break-in made headlines last month when CBS Los Angeles reported the initial details. Officers said three men broke the back door, stepped inside, and fled once Wood opened fire.

NBC4 later revealed the weapon’s ghost-gun status, which only raised more questions about the entire incident.

Wood has kept a low profile since. The former Lakers forward has not played an NBA game since the 2023–24 season due to injury, and the team waived him in February.

Now he finds himself back in the news because someone allegedly used a pizza to case his house. It is not the comeback he was hoping for, but it is one investigators expect to stay on for a while.
