CONTROVERSIAL BARSTOOL SPORTS FOUNDER SNAGS LAP OF HONOR IN NASHVILLE

Dave Portnoy, the controversial founder of the Barstool Sports franchise, is getting a lap of honor at IndyCar’s season finale, hosted on August 31 at Nashville Superspeedway.

Called the “Fastest Seat in Sports,” IndyCar utilizes a two-seater open-wheel racing machine that allows high-profile passengers to snag a high-speed lap around the track. Other major celebrities to receive the honor include Tom Brady, Lady Gaga, Jon Bon Jovi, and Mark Wahlberg.

IndyCar is broadcast on FOX Sports, which last month announced a major collaboration with Barstool Sports.

As part of that deal, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy will become a regular contributor to “Big Noon Kickoff” college football game day shows, alongside several other big names from the Barstool space.

Portnoy is making his debut on Big Noon Kickoff the day before the race, where he’ll be helping lead the pregame show before the Texas Longhorns take on the Ohio State Buckeyes as part of college football’s first week of competition.

From there, the Barstool Sports head is jetting off to Nashville, where he’ll lead the IndyCar field to the green flag ahead of the 225-lap race at Nashville Superspeedway.

Portnoy has made a name for himself by founding the Barstool Sports empire. What started as a blog in 2003 blossomed into a major digital media company that has become a major player in the sporting space.

However, it hasn’t come without controversy. Barstool Sports has been embroiled in all kinds of drama, from sexualization of women to the company’s curation of a very particular kind of humor that often borders on salacious.
