Two of the biggest moments from the 2025 MLB World Series are heading to auction, giving collectors a rare chance to own pieces of Dodgers history.
SCP Auctions has listed the balls hit by Miguel Rojas and Will Smith in Game 7, the same balls that turned a near-certain defeat into one of Los Angeles’ most dramatic championship wins.
Game 7 in Toronto looked done in the ninth inning. The Dodgers trailed 4–3, two outs from losing the series, and Rojas was deep into a slump. He had not recorded a hit in weeks.
Then Jeff Hoffman left a breaking ball up on a full count. Rojas sent it over the left-field wall to tie the game and stun the Rogers Centre crowd.
The Dodgers were almost beaten again moments later. Toronto threatened twice in the bottom of the ninth, but Rojas at second and Andy Pages in centre delivered two saves that kept Los Angeles alive.
The game finally swung in the 11th. With two outs and a runner on third, Smith worked the count full and smashed a go-ahead home run to left. It was the first Dodgers lead of the night and the hit that sealed a second straight World Series title.
One family caught both baseballs
The Rojas and Smith home run balls landed just feet apart in the same section. In one of the stranger twists of the night, the same family caught both.
Matt and John Bains each grabbed one and later passed SCP’s full authentication process, which included notarised affidavits and polygraph tests.
Rojas also signed and inscribed his ball before it reached the auction house.
The father–son pair who caught both homers added an unbelievable footnote. Cameras showed them throwing baseballs back toward the field, but John Bains later confirmed the truth.
“It wasn’t even a World Series ball,” he laughed, explaining they used balls they’d brought with them.
As for the real ones? “I’d take $1 million for the Rojas ball and $1.5 million for the Smith ball.”
Seven-figure bids expected
The World Series auction runs for two weeks, with the items listed separately.
SCP expects the Rojas ball to reach $100,000 to $300,000, while Smith’s ball is projected to push far higher. Internal estimates and recent comps suggest it may land in the seven-figure range.
Freddie Freeman’s walk-off grand slam ball from Game 1 of the 2024 World Series sold for $1.56 million last year. SCP officials believe Smith’s Game 7 shot carries even more weight as it directly secured the title.
The auction also includes Shohei Ohtani’s second home run ball from his three-homer NLCS performance in Milwaukee. That item is estimated at $1–2 million or more, given the significance of the game and Ohtani’s two-way dominance.
Other memorabilia includes Lou Gehrig’s 1937 World Series jersey and multiple Mickey Mantle rookie cards.
Most bidding is expected to come in the final 48 hours, but early interest has already been strong. With the Dodgers’ win still fresh in fans’ minds, the World Series auction is shaping up to be one of SCP’s biggest events of the year.
