Jake Paul has shared further details of the injuries he suffered during his heavyweight loss to Anthony Joshua, confirming that surgery on his broken jaw included the removal of teeth.
The 28-year-old was stopped in the sixth round by Joshua in Miami on December 19, bringing a brutal end to a fight that tested the limits of Paul’s rise through professional boxing.
Within hours of the bout, Paul admitted he feared serious damage. Medical scans later confirmed a fractured jaw, which required immediate surgery.
“Lots of pain and stiffness”
Paul updated fans from hospital the following day, posting X-rays and recovery photos to social media.
“Surgery went well thanks for all the love and support,” Paul wrote on Instagram.
“2 titanium plates on each side. Some teeth removed. Have to have only liquids for 7 days, so no @doghausdogs :(.”
He later added a brief message on X that underlined the reality of the recovery process.
“Lots of pain and stiffness,” Paul wrote.
Paul’s fiancé, Jutta Leerdam, responded to the post with a simple message of support, writing: “My man ❤️.”
The moment it went wrong in Miami
The fight itself followed a clear pattern once Joshua began landing clean shots. Paul went down four times across the fifth and sixth rounds before the referee waved it off.
Speaking moments after the stoppage, Paul did not hide the extent of the damage.
“I think my jaw is broken,” Paul said while spitting blood after the fight. “It’s definitely broke. But that was a nice little ass-whooping from one of the best to ever do it.”
Paul later thanked the medical staff who treated him following the bout.
“Thank you to the amazing doctors and nurses who took amazing care of me,” he wrote in a separate post.
Paul reflects on defeat and next steps
The loss marked the second defeat of Paul’s professional career and his first by knockout. His previous loss came against Tommy Fury in 2023.
Despite the outcome, Paul framed the experience as part of his long-term journey in boxing.
“Great experience. I love this sport,” Paul wrote on Instagram. “Time to rest, recover, and return to cruiserweight. Who do you want to see me fight?”
Paul also acknowledged the experience gap between himself and Joshua before the fight even took place.
“This is insane,” Paul told Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix. “I am a madman. I am out of my f—ing mind.”
